Call for meeting/talk

I was thinking of giving a talk on Saturday, 6 Sep 2008. Can we meet for the same? Please RSVP by replying to this topic.

-Mandar

PS: I will put up the title and abstract in the next 2-3 days.

PPS: If Siddhartha and Aditya are agreeable, can we meet at their place for this meeting? Smiley

Re: Call for meeting/talk

I am not available for the next few weekends due to some family issues. But the rest of you carry on without requiring my presence.

Re: Call for meeting/talk

Did this meeting happen? If so, can someone summarize it for the others? And put up some pictures if you have any.

Also, is anyone attending the Big Thinkers talk today? If so, can we have an informal Oktave meet either before or after the talk (maybe in the lobby itself)?

Re: Call for meeting/talk

Yes, we had a meeting on Saturday. The summary of our discussion is as follows.

Co-citations can be seen as hyperlink endorsements. We have developed an approach to compute the probability that a hyperlink on a given page is endorsed by co-citations. This "endorsement probability" can also be seen as a measure of the relevance of the target page to the source page.1 In our discussion, we debated about ways of validating our claims of relevance determined using endorsement probabilities. We discussed about: (1) User relevance feedback to measure precision and recall, (2) Computing the cosine similarity between the keyword vectors of the two documents, and (3) Obtaining the user logs of Wikipedia to study what are the links that people are actually visiting from a given page.

--------------------
1 If A links to B, then A is the source page and B is the target page.

I am attending the talk and am game for an Oktave meeting too. I vote for meeting after the talk.

I'm attending the talk and so is Aditya. Can we have the meeting after the talk, I'm not planning on reaching early?
