This debate on Abstract vs Concrete leading to real life examples for negative arithmetic, reminded me of this story:

A mathematician is sitting at a cafe watching a house opposite the street. He sees two people entering the house. After a while, he sees three people coming out of the house. The mathematician then concludes, "if one person enters the house now, then there would be nobody in the house"..

More such illustrative concrete examples, anyone?

A group of two statisticians went to hunt a tiger. After a long search they finally spotted the tiger. The first statistician aimed and shot, but his bullet hit three feet to the front of the tiger. The second statistician then tried, but his shot fell three feet behind the tiger. They both went back convinced that they had hit the tiger..
