Broadband internet: What is your recommendation?

What has been your experience with broadband internet connections?

We have been using Tata Indicom, and it is by far one of the worst experiences we've ever faced. The connection keeps going down every once in a while and to get it back up each time is a traumatic experience. Even now, our net is down for the past 5 days, before which it was up for one day and down for the week before.

We've not had that good an experience with Reliance mobile, so we are reluctant to switch to Reliance WiMax which is being offered in our locality. Reliance mobile keeps slowly moving up their due date for monthly bills. When we started, bills were due on the 29th of each month. Now, it has slowly shifted to 26th. Paying on the 27th attracts late payment charges. I don't know what is the underlying scheme and how exactly it brings them more money (isn't everything about money?), but it is mighty frustrating.

BSNL has not entered our layout due to some problem with land digging at the edge of our layout. So that is out of the question. Yeah it also means that Preity Zinta will not marry anyone in our layout, so it is good in a way that we don't have BSNL.. Grin

What have been your respective broadband experiences? What ISP do you recommend?

Re: Broadband internet: What is your recommendation?

I have been using Airtel for a little more than two years now and I am very pleased with the service. I have faced almost no problems with the connection.

The customer service is also very good. The adapter for the modem conked off a couple of times and both the times it was replaced within a few hours. In fact one of those times we had informed them at 7pm and they replaced it before 8.30pm!

Re: Broadband internet: What is your recommendation?

I've used almost every ISP available and i've settled with Airtel. I've been using Airtel broadband for the past 3 years and its service is the best out there. It also offers broadband only tariffs, and you need not pay for the phone until and unless you use it.
Also, they give a service guarantee of 4 hours and if they fail they deduct 100rs in your next bill !!

Just seeing this!

The one problem with Airtel is getting the initial connection set up (unless you live in an apartment complex which already has Airtel connections). You need to contact your "local" Airtel guy. Your best bet is to call up the Airtel customer care -- http://airtel.in/wps/wcm/connect/airtel.in/Airtel.In/Home/ForYou/Broadband+Internet/; this page also has a form that you can fill up and let Airtel contact you back. Airtel will first do a feasibility analysis and then let you know if you can get a connection.

Mainly is whether Airtel gets permission to dig up your road  Tongue

Re: Broadband internet: What is your recommendation?

Airtel refused us a connection, saying they have exhausted all connections in the area that I stay  Huh

Settled for Tata Indicom, had a whole lotta headaches for the first month, especially since after a power-cut the router sometimes would self-erase the base station settings in it and we had to call up the Indicom guy time-n-again. Speeds are fair but drop drastically on weekends.

This is why I like Airtel—unlike Tata Indicom and Sify, they never overload their network and consequently the speeds are guaranteed.

I would've also liked them, if they had given me a connection  Grin  Grin

But that's a fair point that you've made ...
