Re: Silverfish's network

llabhilash, for the benefit of the many people on this board who are not familiar with Silverfish, it would be nice if you could explain what it is. The post will become better if you could add a little more context and further explain your question -- what do you imply by 'draw'? In fact, the entire post looks like a title (I would assert that it is actually a better title than the one you used Wink).

Re: Silverfish's network

Well, the post could have at least had a link to Silverfish, so that someone may click on it and stumble upon Silverfish.. Wink

Answer to bigger question, I don't know, it depends, we can discuss more.. Grin

sorry to not have done that..

To describe Silverfish (previously VidyaVahini) in a single line.. its  ' a web-based semantics extraction and aggregation engine for academic documents.'

Users can upload technical documents like papers, journals and also courses (link to a course page). We extract entities like Author/Instructor, Title, Institution etc and try to mine semantic relations among them.

Users have a network of thier own.

Now, coming to the actual question..

How do we
1) get more people to use Silverfish
2) keep existing users interested in Silverfish
3) increase awareness

Silverfish wiki has all the documentation.

Re: Silverfish's network

Here are some comments:

Silverfish is a specialized social network (primarily of interest to academicians and researchers). So, trying to reach out to a general audience may be worthless. In order to make silverfish grow, it needs to be known in the proper circles like dbworld, isworld and some conferences. However, before we can do that, there are several creases that need to be ironed out. These include small little things like being able to edit one's profile and slightly more involved things like semantics based routing.

Basically, we need to distinguish ourselves with some unique features before we reach out to the academic world. Some analogous sites like citeUlike for example, started out like this and have become immensely popular among researchers. DBLP also started out as a university project (at Uni-Trier in Germany). Unlike Citeseer which was actually started by NEC (afaik).
